Water Bearrel

I’m not always a big fan of chain emails. But when they aren’t assailing the President or promising some heavenly reward, they can be downright adorable.

Here’s one I recently received (thanks JM):

“People living in Colorado Springs wondered why their water barrel was almost empty every day. They set up a camera and caught a bear bathing.”

Somewhere, Stephen Colbert is shaking in his boots.

Because Baby African Penguins Need Some Love Too

In the spirit of miracles and endosymbiotic theory, we have some extinction evading maneuvers taken by two Coloradan zoos that saved the life of one darling baby African penguin:

Greg Henry/Denver Zoo

The endangered penguin’s parents were either unwilling or incapable of sitting on the poor chap, so zookeeper and concerned citizen Melanie Pococke put in the call to find some surrogate folks.

Per the Washington Examiner:

The adoptive parents immediately began caring for the newborn by “brooding” the chick by covering it with their bodies and wings for protection and quickly began feeding it, says the Denver Zoo.

Kudos to the Denver Zoo’s sympathetic penguin population for taking the time to care for a kindred pup. Big ups to all devoted zookeepers–gods amongst men.

Peep Show

An email from my Austrian cousin, Kevin:

Happy Easter! The Lord has Risen 🙂
Easter greetings to everyone at home! Hope you have a blessed Easter and an great year ahead!

May God Bless you,

Everyone one over here in Austria!

I don’t know if I’ll make it to church today, but I’ll certainly cook a feast and judging from the lines at the local grocer yesterday, I won’t be alone. The radio just wished me a great Easter weekend, so I’m guessing the general consensus is that today means something to more than half of gen pop.

Putting your feelings about the end of the blessed Lenten season, Passover, and Cadbury Creme Eggs aside, I’m sure most anyone can get behind the Washington Post’s fourth annual Peeps Diorama Contest. This year, the Peep show garnered some 1000 entries, covering every facet of pop culture, pun, and Pixar. The winner? Eep (click for video about the entry):

Though Eep easily had winsome craftsmanship, others dioramas may tickle you a little more. Check out the slideshow of this year’s finalists and enjoy a Goodosphere sampling of past gems:
